BETTIE JEAN (HAMPTON) BASS

February 24, 1936 ~ January 1, 2018 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mrs. Bettie Jean Bass was born February 24, 1936 in Oxford, Mississippi, the daughter of  the late Marion and Louise (Taylor) Hampton. On Monday, January 1, 2018 at Parkview Hospice, her victory was won after fighting the good fight to be with the Lord,  Bettie gained eternal rest at the age of 81.

Bettie followed her dreams to become a Nurses Aid at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan.  She was also a Teachers Aide for Arlington School in Fort Wayne.  You would never hear Bettie raise her voice.  She was always soft spoken and loved being around her family.  If you were to have any kind of a dinner, she would be right there cleaning up.  Bettie loved with her whole heart unconditionally.  She enjoyed every moment spent fellowshipping at church.

She married the sweetheart of her life Mr. Ernest Bass on May 9, 1957.   Together they lived their life faithful to God and became a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Hickory Street in Flint.

It was June of 1986 that she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and joined the Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1986 under the leadership of Rev. Sam Shade, Jr.  She continued serving the Lord there as a member of the Sunday School, member of the Ministers, Deacons and Wives Fellowship and Bible Class.  For many years she served her duties as an International Eastern Star and member of the High Light Gospel Chorus.

Bettie spent every chance she could on the lake trying to get that big fish.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Minister Ernest Bass; grandmother, Jenny Taylor, an uncle, Shuford Taylor; grandsons, Darin Bass and Ray Darnell Snyder; an aunt, Annie Bell.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her son, Omar (Ashley) Bass both of Fort Wayne; daughters, Shirley Ann Snyder, Shirley Jean Bass and Alicia Sanders all of Flint; an aunt, Melinda Pittman of Holly, MI; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Rodney) Norwood of Pickerington, Ohio, Torina Bass of Clayton, NC. Tanea (Adam) Richmond of Battle Creek, MI, Keyon (Sarah) Sanders, Cincinnati, OH, DaLonyon Batson and Malicia Batson both of Flint, Demona (Rodney) Davis of Grand Blanc, MI and Amor Bass of Lansing, MI;  many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

~  Bettie will be laid to rest next to her husband at Concordia Gardens - Lake Avenue  ~
