Calvin Gene Jones was born on August 17, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was the son of the late John Henry Jones and LeAner Blackmon Jones. He made his departure from this world on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital.

Calvin was baptized at an early age and attended Shiloh Baptist Church as a child and later joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In his later years, he united with Oakridge Temple Church of God in Christ where he was dedicated to serve.  He was willing to work in whatever capacity needed. He was very instrumental in the upkeep of the church and a member of the Men’s Group and assisted with the food bank of the church. Calvin faithfully visited the sick and shut-in throughout the city.

He attended South Side High School and received his Associate in Science degree in Industrial Maintenance from IVY Tech College. 

Calvin proudly retired from DANA Corporation after 30 years of dedicated service. He was currently employed with Caravan Facilities.

In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hazelnut coffee and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Jones, LeAner (Blackmon) Jones and Mary Frances Bryant.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Marretta Geans, Alberta (Billy) Young and Courtney Jones; siblings, Marine (Arthur Jr.) Ware, May Robie Jones and Franklin Jones Sr.; three grandchildren, India (Jermaine) Woods, Justin Geans and Loryn Young-Jones; three great grandchildren, Jordan Woods, Jai’da Geans and Madison Geans;  a special niece, Michele (Thomas) Swain and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Oakridge Temple COGIC or the American Cancer Society

Calvin will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery
