Clarence Livingston "Mickey" Benton III

February 22, 1938 ~ June 3, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Clarence Livingston Benton III, lovingly known as “Mickey”, was born February 22, 1938 in Orms, Tennessee.  His mother Alberta Sorrell gave him life and he was raised by his father the late Frank Lawrence Benton Sr. and Mother Sadie (Moore) Benton.  He passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at his home.

Mickey was passionate about helping people.  He was proud to continue in his family’s legacy of serving others.  He received Christ at an early age. He was a devout member of Union Baptist Church.   He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and he spent his entire life helping people in need.   In addition to being a community activist, he enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He loved spending time with his friends and his growing family.

He is survived by his best friend and former wife of 51 years, Marian Benton; daughters, Charisse Benton and Michelle Benton; son, Sean Benton; grandchildren, Erynn, Brent, Meisha and Troy;  eight great grandchildren; his siblings Gwendolyn DeBerry, Julian “Joe” Brown and a host of nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernest Sorrell and Frank Lawrence Benton Jr. “Pepper”.
