Dorothy Jean Woods was born March 31, 1945 in Centerville, Alabama to John C. and Edna M. Woods. She departed this life at the age of 72 on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at her home.
At an early age, Dorothy Jean accepted Christ as her personal Savior in Centerville and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church where Rev. C. Carter was the pastor. She graduated from Bibb County Training School in Centerville.
In 1969, she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and united with Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Calvin Perry where she served on the Trustee Board and Nurses Guild. She served as the President of the Nurses Guild for 30 years. She continued to serve under the current leadership of Pastor Gonzalee Martin until her health began to decline.
In 1999, she retired from St. Joseph Hospital after 30 years of service.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Rodney Woods and Terrence Woods; a daughter, Cindy King-Smith (Roger); a devoted daughter-in-law, April Woods; a half sister, Sherri Cash; six grandchildren, Marqus Sinclair, Bryson Matthews, Latisha Sinclair, Constance Edgell, TeAria and A’sia Woods; 12 great-grandchildren, numerous close and special friends and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dorothy Jean was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Reginald and Antoine and half sister, Glenda Lampkin.
She will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Park
