I am a white Hackley cousin of Eric Donald Hackley's who had put Eric's news about the 1851 founding of a black Baptist Church into a big book of GLIMPSES of kin folks from 1600s on to the present. I looked for his email on 6 September 2017 only to find this news of his shockingly early death. I could tell from what has been online that he was a wonderful man and looked forward to knowing him as an Internet Cousin. (I am old, almost 82, a Herman Melville scholar, now doing this compilation of half page or page GLIMPSES of hundreds of kin folks--far too many to publish as a printed and bound book--something I wanted to talk to Eric Donald Hackley about.) You can tell by what's on the Internet that he was a terrific man. 62! Not fair!

To the Family of Eric Hackley,
The LORD has taken him to eternal rest. He was such an active community activist. I just finished reading his "Kekionga Blacks" book last week. It was very good with lots of info.
We were so sadden to hear of Eric's passing. I had spoke with him on several occasions within the last 2 months. Keep the faith, the LORD will see you through this difficult time.

Eric, Eric what a man I can remember when we would me at the store every week or for sure at least once a month not plan. I understand now God had a plan and he want us to spend as much time as we could talking. his conversation would be about one of his title at time I couldn't keep up with him. when that happen I would go back to our school days. yet when he would say Saraha (Grant ) I say Rile he say excuse me for that, and continue on about writing a story on me. I would come back saying what could you possibly write about me Eric? Eric would look always smiling with the soft but strong voice and say you would be surprise. The saying don't put off tomorrow what you can do today so true when I heard you had gone home, First thing came to my mind was the story upon shock that your time had end down here. Just as Eric hold all the titles and spoke very strong about each and everyone. I could continue to write in my end I give my condolences to the family and friends of Eric Hackley for he was one of our most powerful young men in the city of Fort Wayne Ind. I will continue to Pray for strength peace, comfort and blessing in Jesus name I Pray Amen my always ending #luvya
