Henrietta “Nukey” (Blevins) Martin was born February 21, 1943 in Selma, Alabama. She was the fourth child born to the union of Moses and Lucinda Blevins. At the age of 74, on February 6, 2018, she said “Yes Lord”, when her name was called and took her rest from this earthly life.
In 1962, she graduated from Central High School and attended beauty college. Henrietta was employed by ITT for numerous years prior to her retirement.
She was a very generous and caring person, always giving of herself whenever she felt she was needed. Henrietta volunteered for several organizations throughout the city, some of which included, the voter polls, bell ringer for the Salvation Army and YMCA.
Henrietta will always be remembered for her outspoken personality and her unique, spunky style. She loved music and loved to dance.
Surviving are her son, Johnny P. Martin Jr.; daughter, Christina Martin; grandchildren, Johnny McCall, Shanya Washington, Henrietta Rena Martin, Carion Washington and JeMiyra Lapsley; great grandchildren, Jossiah McCall, Corrianna Smith and I’Marie McCall; brother, Moses Blevins Jr.; sisters, Ophelia Edwards, Lutelia Reed, Lucinda Blevins, Shirley McKinnie, Janice (John) Hannah, Pastor Charlotte Ann (Rev. Curtis III) White, Patricia Blevins and Barbara Blevins along with a host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Violet Martin; her parents and a sister, Carrie Lee Hackner.
Ms. Henrietta will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens on Saturday, February 17, 2018
