Welcome to the memorial page for

JaVon David Sims

March 25, 1995 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 22) 22 Years Old

JaVon was born on March 25, 1995 at Parkview Hospital.  He was the second child of three children to Gina M. Dodson and Nigel B. Sims.  Although JaVon didn’t attend church as he was raised to do, he had a strong belief in the Lord.  JaVon attended South Side High School and was working diligently on obtaining his GED.

JaVon David Sims was known to many as “Sims”, and to me as my “Chocolate Drop” because of his dark smooth complexion.  He had a radiant smile that just lit up a room.  He was well mannered, loyal and incredibly friendly to all his family and the people he trusted and loved.   On November 7, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital, God called him home to his final resting place. Although I have lost a son, God gained a true soldier.  I will grieve but I will not question the Lord’s will.

JaVon leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Gina M. Dodson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; father, Nigel B. Sims of Fort Wayne; three brothers, James L. Dodson Jr. and Jamari L. Dodson both of Fort Wayne and Nigel J. Sims of Chicago, Illinois; four nieces, Ja’Niyah, Aquirra and Ja’Leeah and Najayla and three nephews, Amare, Malcom and James L. Dodson, III whom all loved their uncle.  His paternal grandmother, Rosie Sims; uncles, Kenderick (Judith) Boyd and Diteric Boyd of Fort Wayne, Melvin Boyd of Edgewood, Kentucky and Frederick Sims Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona, and a host of other relatives and close friends. JaVon will also leave behind an unborn child.  He was so happy to learn he was about to become a father.  His legacy will live on.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Lucille Boyd, his uncle, Frederick Boyd and his paternal grandfather, Frederick Sims Sr. and an aunt, Sena Sims.

JaVon will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery
