Her life…
Josephine Elizabeth (Lymon )Smith was born October 27, 1932 in Marion, Alabama to the late Willie Lymon Sr. and Martha Jane (Fincher) Lymon . She departed this earthly life on September 21, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center.
At the age of twenty, she met and was united in holy matrimony to Richard Smith Sr. He departed this life on February 12, 1982.
Dee, as she was affectionately known by her siblings, close family and friends, worked tirelessly until her retirement with the State of Indiana. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age; and raised her children in the church. She also sang for awhile in the Gospel Choir before her health began to fail.
Preceding her into everlasting life was her six-month old son, Richard Smith Jr.; four brothers, Willie Lymon Jr., Robert Lymon, Albert Lee Lymon, Wiley Lymon Sr. and three sisters, Hattie Mae Turner, Bertha Mae Thomas and Ella Mae Turner.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, which includes her five daughters, Georgianna (Jesse) Sullivan, Shirley Smith, June (James Paul) Kelsaw, Victoria (Guy) Washington, Brenda Lee Anderson, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sons, Lee Smith of Fort Wayne and John Speigner of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters Louvenia Essix of Miami, Florida and Mary Hornady of Fort Wayne; sister-in-law, Luevina Lymon, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grand children, three great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
More importantly, her children thank God for her life and her legacy of faith. While her grandchildren loved her story telling of growing up in the rural south with a loving family and in a Christian home.
Mother Smith will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens.
