Jrutha Cook Obituary

Jrutha Cook was born on April 20, 1921 in Forest, Mississippi.  She was the daughter of Young and Maggie (Robinson) Cook.  She departed this earthly life at the age of 97 on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Heritage Park Rehabilitation.

At the age of 14, she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church while in Mississippi.

In 1965, Momma Cook, as she was fondly called,  moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana.  She united with Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and sang in the choir.  In the mid 1980’s, she decided to moved her membership to St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor James W. Bledsoe.   Her faithful membership continued under leadership of Pastor F. A. Sleet, which included participating in the Missionary Society – Cindy Wyatt Circle and Sunday School.  She also served as Treasurer of the Senior Choir.

Upon her arrival Fort Wayne, she gained employment doing day work for the Kettler Family.  After that job ended, she began working at the Holiday Inn, where she retired after 10 years of service.

With a love for people and children, Momma Cook became a part of the Fort Wayne Foster Grandparent program.  She retired in 2010, after grand parenting hundreds of children for 23 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Young and Maggie Cook; daughters, Betty Scott and Linda Terrell; sister, Alice Boykin; son-in-law, Herman Black Sr.; grandchildren, B.T. Terrell Jr., Kevin Scott, Pamela Scott and Nicole Weemes.

Momma Cook leaves to cherish her memory her children, Billy R. Scott, Fredna (DeRoy) Weemes and Glenda Black; a very special grandson, Charles R. Scott; grandchildren, Greg Weemes, Cleo “T.C.” Prince, Stephanie Douglas, Melanie Scott, Kelly Scott, Tamera Prince, Delvin Weemes and Jeffery Terrell;  an uncle, Olivia “Son” (Jewel) Robinson; 21 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; special nieces, Alice Wilson, Martha Boykin, Michelle Boykin and Brenda Ellis;  nephews, David, Edward and Danny Boykin along with numerous other loving family and friends.
