Lula Mae Carlisle was born on December 17, 1925 in Greensboro, Alabama. She was the daughter of Jessie and Lizzie (Curry) Hatch. At the age of 91 she passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Lula accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized while in Alabama.
In 1963, she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana with her husband David Carlisle Sr. She later united with Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Jesse White. She continued her faithful membership down through the years serving as a Missionary under former Pastor Ternae Jordan and current leadership of Pastor Anthony R. Pettus Sr.
She retired from the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 25 years of service. She enjoyed listening to all types of music especially Gospel and Blues. During her free time she could be found at any number of BINGO halls around town.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, Willis J. (Robin) Carlisle; brother, Charles (Mary) Hatch; six grandchildren, Terry “TJ” Rencher, Pamela (Frank) Jones, Eric (Jamie) Rencher, LaToya Slaughter, Cortney Carlisle and Otis (Shatoya) Rencher; 13 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mother Lula was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David Carlisle Sr.; two sons, Edward Leon Carlisle and David “June” Carlisle Jr.; a daughter, Dorothy M. Rencher; a grandson, Tyran Carlisle and seven siblings.
She will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens
