Obituary

Mary Virginia Prince Cato was born to the late Wilson A.  and Bessie Lane Prince in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 8, 1925.  She passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday, May 7, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Mary retired in 1987 from Verizon, formerly known as GTE, where she worked for over thirty years. She was a dedicated member of Turner Chapel AME Church, serving faithfully in many areas of the church for years until her health began to fail.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories to her two children, Carolyn (Steven) Hopkins and John C. (Eunice) Cato Jr. both of Fort Wayne, Indiana;  seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, a brother, Clarence (Dorothy) Prince of Fort Wayne; a sister-in-law, Thelma Cato, Decatur, Georgia;  and a host of other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Cato Sr., a sister Helen Sides and brother, Jessie Prince.

 

Mrs. Cato will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens.
