Ralph Douglas Mattox known as "Professor " was born March 28, 1946 in Washington, Georgia to the late Walter Curtis Mattox and Sarah Odessa (Collins) Mattox. He departed this life while in the comfort of his home on Saturday, February 11, 2017 surrounded by his loving and caring wife, Mary Louise other family and friends.
Ralph accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He left the clay hills of Georgia and made Fort Wayne, Indiana his home in 1969. One day he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Moore, and they joined hands and married in 1971. He worshiped with the Progressive Baptist Church in early years as an Usher; Bethesda Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and later joined the True Love Missionary Baptist Church. Ralph gained employment with Rae Magnet Wire, formally Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire and worked for 37 years before retiring in 2010.
Ralph was a humble man and father. He loved spending time with family and friends, listening to some down home blues, fishing and eating rabbits.
Ralph fought a short battle with cancer. Some may think he lost the fight, but Ralph won the battle, his Victory was gained.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary Louise Mattox; four daughters, Sonya Moore, Ona Mattox, Minister Mechelle Freeman and LaToya Boyd; as a daughter, Rose (Julius) Rankin all of Fort Wayne; a son, Anthony Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers, Ronnie (Jessie) Mattox of Athens, Georgia and Calvin Mattox of Calhoun, Georgia; three sisters, Valerie Bankston and Bernice Foster both of Athens, Georgia and Sarah Nell Chinn of Tucson, Arizona; the niece that named him "Professor," Annette Moore of Fort Wayne; special friends, Cleveland Burgess, Robert Ross and Willie Harris all of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ralph was preceded in death and has reunited in heaven with his mother and father, and brothers, Clifford and John Curtis Mattox.
