Viola (Morgan) Wilbert

August 12, 1948 ~ June 7, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

 

Viola Wilbert was a native of Littleton, Alabama the eighth out of thirteen children was born on August 12, 1948 to Edgar and Odessar (Small) Morgan.  She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.

She met and later married Jimmie Wilbert on January 9, 1967 in Birmingham, Alabama.  In  1969 they made Fort Wayne their home.   Over the years she had worked for Magnavox and Park Center of Fort Wayne.  She attended the International Business College.  Viola became a certified licensed childcare provider and owner of Pathway Family Childcare.  She had a special love for children and you would never see her without someone's child.  She confessed and accepted Christ at an early age while living in Alabama at the First Baptist Church in Littleton. "Aunt Vi"  as she was affectionately known was a faithful and a founding member of Cornerstone Christian Worship Center and served as leader of the Children's Drama Ministry at that time.  Currently she served as an active mother on the Mothers Board at Cathedral of Praise.  Her faith in God afforded her the opportunities to achieve and to realize her purpose, gift and talent for God’s ordained call on her life.

Viola was named the 2011 NAACP President's Award winner based on helping women become independent and to give them a since of self worth.

To always hold and cherish her memory are her husband, Jimmie Wilbert of 50 years; children, Alicia (Roy) Ayers and Jason Wilbert; a brother, Qunnice (Julie) Morgan; sisters, Mary Louise Hawkins, Edwina Williams, Bernice Morgan, Doris Duncan, Evelyn Arnold, Leonia (Kenoah) Stevenson and Kathryn Duncan; aunts, Carrie Smith and Earlene Montgomery; a special friend, Barbara Bassett; nine grandchildren, Londria Ladner, Roi-keila Ayers, Jakhari Wilbert “Nuk”, Jasmine Wilbert, Jayonna Wilbert, Roy Ayers II "Tre’ “, Aliyah Ayers, Joshua Wilbert, and Jeremiah Wilbert; six great-grandchildren, Samareon Sims, Samya Sims, Joseph Campos, Janya Campos, Jayden Ladner and Jace Campos; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Odessar Morgan, Sr.; brothers, Edgar, Jr., Nathaniel, AC, Robert and William Henry Morgan.

 

 

~Viola will be laid to rest in Concordia Gardens - Lake Avenue~
