Andrew Lee Fowlkes was born February 22, 1960, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Carrie Fowlkes and Andrew Jones. He departed this life on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the age of 58.
Andy, as most called him, graduated from Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1979 where he held a record for wrestling at 185 lbs.
He worked for General Motors Truck Assembly for 17 years and was formerly employed by Tokheim for 15 years.
Andy became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor James W. Bledsoe at an early age. In 2010, he united with Jerusalem Baptist Church. On May 17, 2015, Andy and his wife, Dessie became chartered members of Divine Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Michael A. Griffin. During his membership he served faithfully and enjoyed singing in the Male Chorus.
Andy loved playing Dominoes and Spades with his nephews, Raymond “June” Walker II and James Oldham III.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26½ years, Dessie L. Fowlkes; parents, Carrie Fowlkes and Andrew Jones; children, Roshawn Fowlkes, Shierra Fowlkes and Takiea Carter; siblings, Geraldine Williams, Jacqueline (Charles) Stewart, Evelyn Greer, Cressie Fowlkes, Darlene Edwards, Dutchess Jones, Anastasia Reddick, Joe Nathan Bryant and Sharandon Jones; his granddaughters, Ava, Kayonna and Amere’ along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Fowlkes-Clarke, grandparents, Walter Shepard, Rebecca and Frank Johnson, James Howard and Susie Jones; and nephews, James Jarreau Williams Sr. and Nicholaus Scroggins II.
Andy will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens.
