Arthur Lee Scruggs was born on June 9, 1948, to the late Victure Scruggs and late Frances Smith-Scruggs in Holly Springs, Mississippi. His parents moved him to Fort Wayne, Indiana in December 1951. He transitioned from his earthly home on April 30, 2019.
Arthur attended Harmar Elementary, McCulloch Elementary, Central Junior and Senior High Schools. He was part of the track and football team and graduated in 1967. After graduation, he attended IBM School briefly but decided that marriage and the Air Force were better choices. During his marriage to Joyce Merritt, they had two daughters, Tawanna and Toya Scruggs. He served four years in the United States Air Force and became a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Later in life, he married Sharon Majors-Weaver-Scruggs, and they enjoyed 22 years together.
Arthur was previously employed by International Harvester, Sheller-Globe, Lincoln Food Services and was a school bus driver for Fort Wayne Community Schools until his health prevented him from driving.
Arthur confessed Christ at Providence Baptist Missionary Church at an early age. He was currently a member of Grace United Missionary Baptist Church where he grew spiritually under the leadership of Pastor Guy Willis. He served as a member of the Executive Board and Finance Committee. He was a faithful member of Bible Study and was training to become a Deacon like his father, brother, and daughter which is a Deaconess.
Arthur spent his leisure time reading the Bible, watching ESPN and listening to music.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife,Sharon; two daughters, Tawanna (Marvin) Cottrell and Toya (Jon Pierre) Badie; one brother, Arnold (Diana) Scruggs; two sisters, Vera Scruggs Drew and Mary Scruggs Lucas; three grandsons, Jalein and Jeremiah Cottrell and Jameson Badie; one great-grandson, Jakhi Cottrell and great-granddaughter, Jalayah Cottrell; stepchildren, Patrick, Kirsten and Michael Weaver and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victure and Frances Scruggs; one grandson,Jair Badie and two brothers-in-law-Joel Lucas and David Drew.
