Elizabeth Smith Kinnie was born on July 4, 1932 in Marion, Alabama to the late Henry Smith and Rebecca Mitchell Smith.
She moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in the late 1940’s. She met and later married Walter Kinnie Sr.
Elizabeth had worked at Fort Wayne State School for many years. She joined the True Love Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Bishop Jesse White. There she taught Bible Study for many years and continued her membership under the pastorate of Pastor Robert Bell until her health began to fail her.
At the age of 86 she answered the Master’s call and passed from this life on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center for her Heavenly Reward.
“Sweet” as she was known leaves to cherish her many memories to her sons, Tommie (Ellen), Lorenzo (Martha), Timothy (Tracy) and Napolean Kinnie (Dee Burrow); daughters, Barbara (Curtis) Underwood, Betty Kinnie and Carol (John) Hutchins; sisters, Eva Nelson and Willie Louise Smith; daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Mary Kinnie; sister-in-law, Betty Kinnie; a very close cousin, Tom Walker; 35 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sr., sons, Walter, Jr. and Gus Kinnie; a daughter at birth; a grandson, Napolean Johnson; siblings, Willie Smith, Carrie Goggins and Ernestine May.
