Estella’s Journey
Estella Rogers was born June 13, 1934 in Marion, Alabama to Eddie and Corean Martin. On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, she transitioned peacefully at the Parkview Regional Medical Center.
After moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana at an early age, “Stella”, as she is affectionately known, became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.
After graduating from Central High School, Stella attended Poro Beauty College in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1961, where she received her Diploma in the Arts & Science of Beauty Culture. She retired from General Electric Company after 25 years of dedicated service.
From her marriage to the late Attorney Thomas Grant, she gave birth two daughters Margie R. Grant and Rosalind Grant. She later married the late Peter “Jimmie” Rogers and was blessed with a stepdaughter, Angenetta Rogers (Gadsden, AL) along with two wonderful grandchildren, Omar (Felicia) Cunningham (Gadsden, AL) and LaMecha (Kelvin) James (Montgomery, AL) in addition to four great grandchildren, Kyle, Kyrie, Genesis and Micah.
Stella united with Union Baptist Church after her marriage to Jimmie Rogers. During her membership, she was involved in numerous auxiliaries throughout the church.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margie R. Grant; two brothers, Robert E. “Charlie” Martin and Henry King “Da-Da” and a sister, Zella “Z” Hill.
Stella leaves to cherish in her memory, a loving and devoted daughter, Rosalind Grant; two sisters, Corrine (Clarence) Brandy (Marietta, GA.) and Loretta L Dixie (Fort Wayne, IN); a brother, Michael “Mike” (Sharon) Jones (Fort Wayne, IN) along with a host of other loving family members including special cousins, First Lady Dorothy Fincher, Gatha Gray and Delois Mitchell and many other extended family members which include:
