Gertha M. Jordan, age 85, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Parkview-Randallia.
As a native of Evergreen, Alabama, she relocated to Fort Wayne in 1947. Shortly after her relocation, she united with Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. John Dixie Jr. She continued her faithful works under the leadership of Pastor Sam Shade Jr. and Pastor Raymond Dix Jr.
Gertha was a 1950 graduate of Central High School and never missed one class reunion.
During her 71 ½ years of membership, she served in several organizations in the church. When asked what she enjoyed doing, her reply was, “ Doing God’s business!”
She retired from International Harvester Truck (now Navistar) after more than 30 years of service. For years she was active in the Oxford Neighborhood Association and very instrumental in keeping the association in operation.
Gertha enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching and attending sports events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Johnson Sr. and Lura Johnson; infant son, Dexter E. Jordan; siblings, Erma Bolden, Verna Rembert, Willie Johnson Jr., Ellis Dailey, Alberta Perry, Milton Johnson and Ernestine Hides.
Surviving are her sons, Michael D. (Jerri), David A. (Toni) and Richard E. Jordan; sister, Eulean (James) Chapman, nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
