James Redmond Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Mr. James M. Redmond

James M. Redmond, 85, departed this earth on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, with his loving family by his side in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

James was born on August 3, 1934, in Lexington, Mississippi, to Bilbo Redmond and Julia (McGaw) Redmond.

He graduated from Ambrose High School in Lexington, MS in 1952, that same year he relocated to Chicago, later moving to Fort Wayne to join his parents. In 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army.  He retired from General Electric in 1996, after 31 years of service.

James was an avid photographer, referred to by many as the “Picture Man.”  He photographed countless weddings, family reunions, and celebrities.  He spent time as a freelance photographer for Frost Illustrated, documenting many years of Circle City Classic games, Black Expos, and events around town.  He attended classes at the University of Saint Francis (1976), Fort Wayne Art School (1977) and Indiana Business College (1978), to develop his craft.

Very well known in Fort Wayne, he could be spotted at community forums, on the Metro field taking pictures or at  his favorite hangout, Link’s.  James had two special loves in his life, his 1968 Buick Electra 225 aka Deuce and A Quarter, and 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood.  He had a special bond with his great grandson, Robert Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Ruth Rule; grandson, Marcus Hayden and his special cousin, Mingo Morrison Sr.

James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Burton) Redmond; sister, Eloise Evans; daughters, LaVonda Bailey of Wilmington, CA, Kimberly Bates, Arlecia White, Janelle Jones, and Chenita "Nikki" Redmond of Raleigh, NC; sons, Byron Redmond of Dallas, TX, and Johnny Redmond; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
