Jannie Wright Obituary

Sis. Jannie L. (Nelson) Wright was born April 26, 1934 in Americus, Georgia.  At the age of 84, she passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at her daughter’s home.  She was the daughter of the late Rev. Sim and the late Willie Mae (Robinson) Nelson, Jr.

In 1934, she moved with her family to Belle Glade, Florida.  She accepted Christ at the age of 13 and was baptized as a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

On April 6 1952, she united in holy matrimony to Samuel W. Wright, Jr.  In September 1955, they relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Shortly after relocating, she united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James W. Bledsoe.  Sis. Wright was a trailblazer of her own kind.  She didn’t just talk the talk, she walked the walk.  Devoted to serving in God’s House no matter the task.  She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for 63 years.  During her membership she served in numerous capacities.

In 2010, she retired from the workforce after 50 years of employment.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 56½years, Deacon Samuel W. Wright Jr.  in November 2008; six brothers, Leroy Nelson, James Nelson, Walter Nelson, Rev. Levi Nelson, Eddie Nelson and Rev. Sim Nelson III and two aunts, Melinda Style and Clara Brown.

Sis. Wright leaves to cherish her memory a son, Alphonzo Wright; a loving and devoted daughter, Deborah Watson and grandson, Justin Watson; a sister, Mary E. Turner; a brother, Willie Nelson; sisters-in-law, Betty Nelson, Mary Nelson, Vernell Nelson, Vela Nelson,  Fallie Nelson, Helen Butler,  Martha Lee and Daphanie Wright; uncle, Rev.
