Joseph was born October 22, 1961 in Chicago Illinois to Joseph Hurley Jr., aka Yusef Shah and Tennie Hurley.

He was educated in the Chicago Public Schools system and attended Simeon Vocational Academy. During his teen years, he became proficient in Karate and won several Karate championships in Chicago.

Joe later attended Atterbury Job Corp, in Edinburgh Indiana where he obtained his GED and completed the program to become a Glazier. Shortly after completion of the Glazing program, he faithfully served in the United States Army Reserve and learned how to operate heavy equipment.

After serving in the military, Joe relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where he was employed at various construction sites installing glass in high rise buildings, operated heavy equipment for several salvage companies, and acquired skills as a short order cook.

Joseph was extremely intelligent,  shortly after moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana, he enrolled at Med Tech College where he studied nursing. He received excellent grades each term and consistently made the Dean’s list. He possessed a passion for music and reading and could often be found reading in the public library. He was always ready to engage in intellectual conversation about music, current events and many other subjects. He had an ear for music and was an avid fan of varied music genres.

Possessive of a free spirit, a good heart, and giving nature, Joseph got along well with others and always saw the good in those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Joseph leaves his brother Derrick Bradley (Mary) of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Pamela Murray of Maywood, Illinois; brother Tyris Hurley of Fort Wayne Indiana; sister, Tenna Hurley of Bolingbrook, Illinois, several nephews, nieces, many cousins and a host of friends and dear loved ones to celebrate his life.
