Juanita Moore Obituary

Juanita (Harmon) Moore was born November 19th, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama.

She was the daughter of the late Junius and Lunette  (Smith) Harmon “Dear”.

At a young age she accepted Christ and was baptized at 1st Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.  She attended Council Elementary School and Western Olin High School before leaving Birmingham.

In 1964, she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana with her little girl, Cindy.  Shortly after her arrival she united with Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. John Dixie.  Three years later in 1967, Juanita began a career with the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center.

In 1969, she married Jerry Moore Jr.,  father of two sons, Tony and Robert.  The family blended and grew with the addition of three children, Kimberly, Jerry, and Shannon.

During her career she developed and enhanced her passion for caregiving.  While working with clients with specials needs, our mother held true to the adage of “Treating others the way you want to be treated”.  She retired after 40 years of dedicated service.

Following her retirement, she continued her passion for caregiving, traveling across the country caring for her family members and friends.

Juanita had a special love for plants, animals, sewing, fishing, puzzles, and playing cards with friends.  She was a devoted member of the Sisters of the Cloth quilting guild.  She also had a fondness for rain, as she would often times just sit and listen to the sound it produced.

God blessed Juanita with quick whit, an awesome sense of humor, and a voice that will continue to warm our hearts.  She had a special greeting “Hey how are you Sweetheart?”, which always worked to make anyone feel special.

Our mother passed away, at the age of 74, on Tuesday November 5th 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Juanita was preceded in death by her mother and father, a son Dennis Harmon, and sisters Louise H. Isom and Loretta Roberts.

Surviving are her children, Gerald (Anne) Moore, Cynthia (James Barnett) Moore, Robert (Molly) Moore, Kimberly Bohde, Jerry Moore III, and Shannon (Antrell) Perry; three sisters, Bertha McLemore, Mary Henighan, and Patricia (Michael) Conley; Four brothers, Tommy (Vivian), Joe, Larry (Sheila), and Leroy (Carol) Harmon,  grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
