Mildred (Barfield) Thomas was born April 12, 1938 in Bradford, Alabama to the late Grady and Ruth Barfield, Sr.   At the age of  79, she departed this life on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Mildred was a 1956 graduate of Hooper City High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church serving faithfully in many areas including Sunday School, Mass Choir, Missionary Auxiliary and the Usher Board under the leadership of the late Rev. C E Walker and current leadership of Pastor Fred Morris.

In the 1998, Mildred retired from Lincoln National Life Insurance Company after 28 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Thomas and a sister, Yolanda Parker.

Mildred leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Charlotte Spencer (Danny) of Birmingham, Alabama and Melinda (William) Batteast of South Bend, Indiana; one son, Ken Thomas (Patricia) of Liberty Township, Ohio; one sister, Mary Blakely of Birmingham, Alabama; three brothers, James Barfield (Marilyn) of Douglasville, Georgia, Grady Barfield Jr. of Pinson, Alabama and Ronnie (Cecelia) Barfield of Colony, Alabama; three sisters-in-law, Odell (Novel) Kelly of Goodwater, Alabama, Ann Margaret Thomas and Josephine Hale both of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Tyree (Yewubdar) Barfield  of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jeremy (Keri) Spencer and Jessica Spencer both of Birmingham, Alabama, Shatrina Batteast-Alkattan, Blake Batteast, Lindsey Batteast and Brianna Batteast all of South Bend, Indiana, Kendra Thomas and Meagan Thomas of Liberty Township, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Victoria Barfield, Naomi Barfield, Grace Barfield, Meron Barfield, Liya Barfield, Abigail Barfield of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Jaxson Spencer of Birmingham, Alabama; one uncle, William Barfield; two aunts, Roberta Sumpter of Washington, D.C. and Ethel Snowden of Virginia along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sis. Thomas will be laid to rest in Lindenwood Cemetery next to her late husband, Joe
