Naomi Mackey McCowan age 93 was born on February 5, 1926 to Sarah (Sands) Mackey and Zebedee Mackey in the settlement of Bannerman Town, Eleuthera, Bahamas. She was the third of nine children. Naomi crossed over on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11:58 pm at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Three children were born from the union of her former husband George E. McCowan (deceased). Left to cherish her memories are: Two Sons: Arthur J. McCowan (Jaqueline-deceased, Alicia-divorced, Lisa Bright-loving companion), Bishop George C. McCowan (Jeanetta-deceased); One Daughter: Kathy McCowan (Robert-deceased) all of Fort Wayne, IN; Eight Stepchildren: Deceased--Carolyn Wash, Gwen, and James McCowan, Revel Harper; Surviving---Anthony (Kimberly) Simmons of Indianapolis, IN, Cornelius (Jean) Simmons of Fort Wayne, Elayne Weathersby of Chicago,IL, Marshal (Nancy) Woodard of Puerto Vallarta, MX; Four Sisters: Deceased--Velthy Adderly and Enith Nixon; Surviving--Monica Moss and Veronica Minns; Four brothers: Deceased--Irvin, Oscar, and Samuel Mackey; Surviving--James Mackey all of Nassau, Bahamas; Host of grand and great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Fort Wayne, IN, other U.S. states and the Bahamas; Many staff members at Lutheran Life Villages on South Anthony in Fort Wayne, IN.
She was lovingly called Miss Naomi by many. She retired from the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 20 years of service. She later worked as a foster grandparent with pre-schoolers. Naomi enjoyed reading the Bible, watching TV, and spending time with family and friends.
Service is 11 am Saturday, July 13, 2019 at
Kingdom Door Christian Worship Center where Rev. Harold Johnson is the Pastor.
Bishop George C. McCowan will be the Eulogist.
