Ora Rogers Curry was born October 14, 1935 in Marion, Alabama.   She was the youngest daughter of Columbus L. and Ruth (Bennett) Rogers.  At the age of 81, she passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Lutheran Life Villages.

Ora graduated from Lincoln High School in Marion, Alabama. After graduating from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama she began teaching.  She later earned her Master’s degree from St. Francis College.

In 1999, Ora retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools where she taught Language Arts and Social Studies. The majority of her teaching was at Portage Middle School.

She was a long time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended regularly until her health began to decline.  She was also a former Past President of the Federation of Lutheran Women. 

Surviving are her daughters, Karen Jackson, Cynthia (Tony) Alexander and Kimberly (Willie) Johnson; sons, Pollard III (Valerie) Curry and Roger (Melanie) Curry; sister Alberta Alexander; sisters-in-law, Gail Rogers, Dora Holifield, Mary Ann Johnson and Sara Ann Luckey; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Columbus L. and Ruth B. Rogers; husband Pollard Curry, Jr.; sister, Mallie Craig Lapsley; brothers, Columbus Jr., Alphonso, Floyd Sr. and Edgar; sisters-in-law, Josie, Nellie and Viola Rogers and brother-in-law, Alvin Alexander.

Ms. Ora will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens
