Rev. Richard Allen Ditaway, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at home. He was a native of Newbern, Alabama but lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana since 1966.
He accepted Christ early in life at the Reynolds Chapel AME Church in Newbern. After moving his family to Fort Wayne, he became a faithful member and served on the clergy staff of Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church until his health began to fail him. Richard worked many years at General Motors before retiring.
He was a member of the Local UAW and had been the manager of the Stars of Glory Gospel Group of Fort Wayne. He was an avid mall walker, and reader. He was also a great provider for his family. He loved the Lord and took his duty as a minister seriously as he assisted the many pastors of the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nettie Ruth; a son, Edwin his parents; Richard Sr. and Margaret; stepmother, Fannie Ditaway; siblings, Asberry Ditaway, Carrie Hayden and Sarah Garrett; and daughter-in-law, Tammie Ditaway.
He leaves to cherish memories of him to his children, Terry Ditaway, Jared Ditaway, Elaine Darby and Charlotte Moore; sisters, Bertha Bates and Alice Harris; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He will be laid to rest in Lindenwood Cemetery
