Solomon Black was born September 13, 1934 in Tuskegee, Alabama.  He was the son of Jimmie and Jane (Gordon) Black.

He relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana in January 1950. In 1952, he graduated from Central High School.

Solomon enlisted in the United States Army in 1957, where he served his country until his honorable discharge in December 1962.

After 37 years and 7 months of dedicated service he retired from Slater Steel.

Solomon was an avid sports fan.  He enjoyed playing cards, traveling with his wife Catherine to various events.  He loved walking and riding his bike through Foster Park.

On Tuesday morning of June 27, 2017 at Lutheran Life Villages, Solomon made his transition and departed this earthly life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Jane Black and three brothers, Tommie Black Sr., Willie Black and Eugene Black.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Catherine Black; sons, Shauwn Wattley, Thomas (Michele) Swain Jr. and Marvin Swain; daughter, Helen Durham; seven grandchildren, Cicely (Darius), Ferran (Kevin), Joshua, Thomas (Mahogany) Swain III, Sasha Seals, Tyrell Swain and Jaela Durham; four great grandchildren, Genesis, Londyn, Savontre and Jaeana; nephew, Tommie Black Jr. and a host of other family members and friends.

Mr. Black will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens
