William was born on Monday, September 22, 1957 to Mrs. Mattie Rogers Benison and the late Mr. Ike Davis Sr. in Bessemer, Alabama.
William accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. William attended school in the Bessemer City School System and graduated from Jess Lanier High School in 1975. After graduation William wanted to serve his country. In 1976, he enlisted in the United States Army.
After his tour of duty in Germany, he received his honorable discharge in 1978. William returned home and worked for US Pipe in Bessemer, Alabama and later relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he became employed with Potlatch Corporation, which lasted for several years. While in Fort Wayne, William united in holy matrimony and to this union two beautiful children were born Krystal and William Jr.
In the late 2000’s William changed his life and decided to follow the Lord. William became involved in several church activities. He drove the church van and sang in the Male Choir at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, until his health began to fell him.
William relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana to live with his daughter Krystal and later to Fort Wayne to live with his sister Yvonne.
After William health continued to decline he was placed in Genesis Health and Rehabilitation nursing home in December of 2017.
William was a man GOD and knew the LORD. William had many conversations with GOD and GOD heard his cry. So, on Friday, January 26, 2018 GOD answered Williams’ cry and called him home. William passed away peacefully in his sleep.
William H. Rogers Sr. was preceded in death by his son, William Henry Rogers “Junior”.
William leaves to cherish a daughter that he loved dearly, Krystal Rogers of Indianapolis, Indiana; two granddaughters, Kaniya Rogers and Kamora Rogers; one grandson, Sebasjun Delgado; a devoted and loving mother, Mattie Rogers Benison; five sisters, Mattie Walker, JoAnne Horn, Yvonne Brabson, Anne Davis-Wade and Sharon (Carl) Howard; six brothers, Ike Davis Jr., Edwin (Annette) Davis, Frederick Davis, Walter (Catrina) Davis, Kenneth Davis and E Mustafa Muhammad.
William also leave a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Along with two young ladies, Brittany and Candice Roberson that were like daughters and a caring healthcare team that assisted every step of the way.
