Anyta (Prestwood) Macon Obituary

Anyta Macon was born April 1, 1949 in Fort Wayne, IN to the union of Fred Prestwood, Sr. and Charlene Prestwood (Gooch). She was the youngest of their two children during their union. She departed this life on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 76.

During her early years, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee for a short stint before settling into Chicago, IL where she attended John Marshall High School and lived until 1973 when she moved to Fort Wayne, IN. Anyta started working at Harvester before meeting, unbeknownst to her, the love of her life, Thomas James Macon in 1975. After making each other’s acquaintance, Anyta joined forces with Tom and started coaching the Outreach Rams cheerleaders and helped develop the first double dutch competition in the state of Indiana. After noticing their similarities in life, Anyta and Tom exchanged vows September 15, 1979. After 3 years of marriage, Harvester shut their doors, and Tom encouraged and supported Anyta while she attended Four Winds Cosmetology School obtaining her cosmetology license and soon opening “New Attitude Beauty Salon” on Pontiac Street. After a successful start in cosmetology, in 1994, Anyta, Tom and her youngest sister Mary launched the opening of “Just For Kids Daycare.” JFK stayed in operation until 2005 when Anyta retired and stayed doing hair for close friends and family.

During retirement, Anyta loved cooking, shopping, traveling, visiting family, playing bingo, scrabble and spades. She enjoyed watching Price is Right and the news at noon, evening and night.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Prestwood, Sr and Charlene Mims; brothers, Fred Prestwood Jr., James Harvey Newmon, Larry Lamar Newmon and Charles Edward Newmon; sister Bonnie King; son Vincent Jerod Gant; uncles, Andrew "Uncle Sonny" (Gayle) Archie, Earl (Jessie) Roberson and Jim (Patricia) Hayes; and niece, Twilah Newmon; granddaughters, Shaquay Booker, LaToya Quattropani.
