Carl Stewart Obituary

Mr. Carl Stewart

Carl Stewart, affectionately known as Ink, was born June 22, 1935 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Alexander and Sally (Hood) Stewart. He passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020 at home after an extensive bout of declining health.

Carl Stewart "Ink" moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1956 from Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he met and married Alteree (Bryant) Stewart shortly thereafter in 1958.  Ink was employed with Richard’s Bakery for many years as a baker, and Worthman Homes Construction Company for 20+ years until the company closed.  During his years at Worthman Homes Construction he perfected his trade skills of framing and home building.  After leaving Worthman Homes Construction he worked for a brief period at Lutheran Homes in their Laundry Department after which he retired from the workforce.

Carl Stewart "Ink" enjoyed many activities in his spare time, he loved to fish, work in his garden and to work on jigsaw puzzles. He would work for hours on his puzzles and he had an eagle’s eye which provided him the ability to put puzzles together quickly.  His all-time favorite pass time was watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers play and of course he enjoyed his lottery scratchers (I guess we got it from our father)!   Above all he was a great baker and made some “mean” homemade biscuits and cherry pies.  While many don’t know this, he could fold a fitted sheet to perfection.

Carl Stewart "Ink" leaves to cherish his memory, Alteree (Bryant) Stewart his former wife, friend and the mother of his five devoted children, Jacqueline (Pastor James) Kizer, Carl (Di-Ann) Stewart, Karen Stewart, Sharon (Frank) Pugh and Tammie (Joe) Johnson all of Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Eight grandchildren, Micquail Kizer, Kantrell Kizer, Jeremy Stewart, Juwuan Stewart, Derek White, Arneshia Banks, Destiny Banks, Damarian Dixie, 22 great grandchildren, a sister, Sally V. Stewart of Fort Wayne, Indiana along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Sally Stewart;  sister, Stella Mae Colvin; son, Greyland Banks; grandson, Robert Brown; nephew, Muhammad Stewart, and niece, Linda Foster German.
