Charles Edward Jackson Obituary

Charles Edward Jackson went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2023.  Charles was born in Fort Wayne, IN on January 11,1940 to the late Edna Jackson Morgan and Waymon Morgan. 

Charles was a dedicated and faithful member of Union Baptist Church Layman's Association, past director of the Inspirational Choir and The Male Chorus, past member of the Union Baptist Church scholarship committee, past Sunday School teacher (male class).  He served as past president of the Northern Indiana District Baptist Association and past Vice President of the Indiana Missionary Baptist State Convention.   

Charles was a graduate of Central High School class of 1958.  He was the first recipient of the McCullough Center Scholarship (1958). He attended Indiana University.  On June 16, 1962 he married his high school sweetheart Bobbie Jean (Thomas) Jackson and to this union their two sons were born.  After being married for just one year, Charles was drafted by the military to serve in the Army.  He was later given an honorable discharge.  

Following his discharge from the Army, Charles began working for the International Harvester where he was one of the first Black supervisors; he later worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools having served both employers for 20 years.  Charles also worked for Parks and Recreation Department for numerous decades.  Charles was a foster grandparent and mentor to young men.  He coached basketball at the McCullough Center and during the summer ran the parks  program at Hanna Homestead.  Charles was on the Jennings Center Advisory Committee, was one of the first organizers of The Gents Men's Club and was involved with many other organizations.  He was also co-owner of C&W Catering for over 30 years. 

Charles is survived by his two sons - Todd O. Jackson and Akil (Sanari) Naazir... seven grandchildren - Jaelynn, Todd II, Tariq, Daelin, Dayanna Jackson, Aleese Branigan, and Surah Naazir...one brother - Willie (Betty) Gilbert...four God daughters - Candace Bent, Donna (Mack) Brown, Andrea Foust, and Taylor McDowell... four God Sons - Joey Adams, Dr. Andre Stovall, Andre Stephens and Garland Hudson... three nephews;  Cameron White, Reggie Jackson, Kevin (Marie) White...three nieces - Sondra (Robert) Jackson-Moore, Kim (Kevin) Alexander, Robin Brewer... and a host of other family and friends. 

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years , Bobbie Jean Jackson, parents, sisters Johnnie Mae White, Arnie "Mildred" Jackson, brother -in-law Lorenzo White, special son Vinson Winn, nephew Kenny White and great nephew Terrance Jackson.
