Della D. (Starks) Jackson was born September 2, 1939 in Browns, Alabama. She was a daughter of Elbert and Hattie Starks. On December 29, 2021, she passed away.
Della confessed to Christ at an early age and joined Friendship Baptist Church in Browns, Alabama.
She was a 1957 graduate of Keith High School in Orville, Alabama. After graduating, she later relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she later joined Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Samuel L. Walker.
She retired from the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 30 years of service. After retiring, she and her daughters owned and operated Mama's Place Restaurant "The Best Soul Food in Town".
Della leaves to cherish her memory her daughters and son, Gloria Starks, Cynthia Lowry, Therese Tatum-Jones, Sandra Hogue, Jenell Shoals, Vanessa Alexander, LaDetha Jackson-Lee and Lovell Jackson Jr.; a brother, Reverend Elbert (Brenda) Starks (Huntsville AL); her sisters, Hattie (William) Norfleet (Fort Wayne, IN) and
Scottie Walker (Kansas City, MO), 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, special nieces, Gwendolyn Walker, Doris Williams, Janet Wallace; special son, Jarmarkus Taylor; her best friends, Helen Jackson, Ora Pace and Doris Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Hattie Starks, her husband, Lovell Jackson, her grandson Steven McElvene, her brother, Herman Starks, her sisters, Savannah Jordan, Annie Kinnie, Bernice Dupree, Thelma Williams and Ernestine McGraw and her son-in-law, Jeffery Jones Sr.
