Doris Jean Cummings was born to the late TC Calvin and Selena Cummings on May 11, 1960 in Elkhart, Indiana. Doris eventually moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Northrop High School and shortly after married John Lester Stephens in 1980. Their union produced six children but eventually dissolved years later.
Despite many challenges in her life she never lost her hope or faith in the Lord. A very spiritual woman that can read and quote a Bible from the beginning to the end with no hesitation!
Doris always made sure her children and grandchildren knew how much she loved them. Even with obstacles, her heart and spirit remained pure and true to those that she loved until November 23, 2020 when God chose her to be with him. She was a praying woman, who enjoyed studying the Bible and listening to Christian music. Doris was no stranger to the churches of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She loved visiting and worshiping.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Tequila Stephens of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Shequida (Ryan) Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia; three sons, Chon Stephens, Nickolis Stephens and JL (Tierra) Stephens all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; her mother Selena Cummings-Lewis of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one sister, Sharon Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two step sisters, Patricia Stewart and Sharron Adams of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Mikel Cummings of Fort Wayne, Indiana and James Calvin of South Bend, Indiana; 22 grandchildren; one great grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her oldest son Alastair Stephens in 2018 and her father TC Calvin in 2010.
