DR. ANNE R. SPANN, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. 
 

Anne was a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. Anne made her first mark in Fort Wayne being the first African American District Administrator at the Grile Building. Later she worked as the Librarian and Media teacher at South Side High School and Kekionga Middle School. She retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools after 27 years.

She was kind and compassionate, touching the lives of all those around her. She met and made new friends wherever she went and treasured her longtime friendships. She will be greatly missed in this community.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Thomas Cortez Spann Jr.; daughter, Tomisha D'Ana (Cornelius) Carter; granddaughter, Camille Spann; two sisters, two brothers, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Service is 11 a.m. Friday, September  9, 2022, at Union Baptist Church, with the visitation starting at 10 a.m. Repast will be held at Walker Community Center, 1151 Francis St., starting at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest where she was born in Berea, Kentucky in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
