Elizabeth "Crack" Brown
Loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend
Elizabeth Lavon “Crack” Brown (McDonald) was born April 20, 1936, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Elijah and Bertha McDonald; she departed this life on April 20, 2020. Fourth of seven McDonald children, Crack accepted Christ at an early age. She was a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church (UBC), where she served on the Pastor Aide Committee, Birthday Club, Floral Club, Secret Pals Club and bowling league. She also served on the Senior Usher Board, Choir, director Children’s Choir and was the original director of UBC’s Childcare Ministry.
Crack attended South Side High School, graduating in 1954. In 1956, Crack married Charles Brown. Together they raised their children, until his death in 1978. She worked at the radio station WKJG as well as Huddle BBQ before joining the staff of the VA Hospital, where she worked for 30 years before retiring in 1995. An avid and excellent bowler, Crack’s other hobbies include playing bingo, traveling, visiting casino’s, playing cards and spending time with family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Robert (Teresa) McDonald, Rodney McDonald, Carlotta Brown and T.C. Brown, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one sister, Marlene “Tillie” McDonald, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Colette (Ivren) Morgan, Rondrea Taylor, Adoness (Angelica) Brown, Francesca Hatch, Trenton Hatch, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Summer McDonald, Janelle (Cody) Clark of Charlotte, North Carolina and Keyona (Adrien) Peterson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; beloved niece Juanita Ashford of Buena Park, California; great nephews Ronald (Whitney) Odom, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Samuel Odom, of Las Vegas, Nevada all of whom she helped raise; her special son, Rev. Dr. Timothy Lake. A host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss Crack dearly, especially her hugs, infectious laugh, tremendous faith and joyful spirit.
Crack was preceded in death by her parents; Elijah and Bertha McDonald; husband, Charles Brown; daughter, Colette Brown; brothers Ernest and Robert “Bobby” McDonald; sisters Peggy Odom, Jessie Mae “Ooks” Parker and Sharon McDonald; grandson, Robert “Watts” Hatch; granddaughter, Tomanesha “Munk” White-Rodgis; special niece, Nancy Ash whom she helped raise.
She will be laid to rest in Concordia Gardens
