Ellis Grayson, Sr. was born October 03, 1937, in Elaine, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Ammie (Shepard) and Roy Grayson, Sr. Ellis confessed Christ at an early age in Elaine, Arkansas. Later, on January 03, 1959, he united in holy matrimony to Mary (Thomas) Grayson. In the same year, they relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a better means of livelihood.
Ellis landed a job at the heart of the city, International Harvester. He worked here until the company closed its doors in 1983. He continued his career at Superior Essex, as an Enamel Room Operator until he retired.
Ellis was an outstanding cook. He enjoyed cooking for his family; lemon ice-box pies were one of his family's favorites. He delighted in mowing yards, sitting out back near the pool, and watching football. Ellis was an avid Detroit Lions fan. He also treasured the time spent caring for his dogs. He was a kind soul who devoted his life to taking care of his family. Ellis received his gold wings and was inducted into Heavens Hall of Fame on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the age of 84.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary Grayson; children, Ellis Grayson Jr., Eureka Wright, Dennis (Joyce) Duncan, Patricia (Jeffrey) Grayson, Zena (Curtis) Thompson, Debrah (Trenton) James, and Cordell (Jessica) Grayson, Sr.; grandchildren, Amontray Thomas, Bronce Thomas, Shinisha (Javon) Warfield, Stephanie (Adrian) Rogers, Jeron Roland, Mytrell Roland, Lamarcus Moore, Ieesha Arnold, JacQuel Scott, Natalie Grayson, Gracie Grayson, Maddie Grayson, Cordell Grayson, Jr., and Mary Grayson; brothers, Terry (Sheri Jones) Grayson, James (Ora Lee) Grayson, Andrew Grayson, Willie Grayson, Jimmie Grayson, Lloyd (Florence) Grayson, Jessie Grayson, Ronnie Grayson, and Donald (Cynthia) Grayson; sisters, Betty (Leo) Anderson, Rannie Dorsey, Melanie Grayson, Juanita Grayson, and Beth (Andre) Davis; brother-in-law, David Springer and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Gregory Grayson and Darnell Grayson; parents, Ammie and Roy Grayson, Sr.; stepmother, Lester Grayson; grandson, Derrick Moore, Jr.; brothers, Arthur Grayson and Roy Grayson Jr.; sisters, Ruthie Evans, Rosie Lee Redmond, Mary Phillips, Mattie Rice, Millie Starks, and Mamie Springer.
