Elmer "Sonny" L Hayes

ELMER L. "SONNY" HAYNES, age 76, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Heritage Park Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born August 17, 1944 in Humboldt, Tennessee.  He was the son of Fred Lee and Geraldine (Hassell) Haynes.

 At age of 12 he was baptized at St. James Baptist Church in Humboldt and was a graduate of Stigall High School.

In 1972, he moved to California where he resided for 37 years. During that time, he took pride in landscaping and enjoyed manicuring lawns.

In 2009, Sonny, as he was lovingly called, returned to Fort Wayne, Indiana and began working for Wolf Bedding.  Shortly after his arrival, he united with Friendship Baptist Church.  In 2013, he moved his membership to Grace United Baptist Church.  During his free time he enjoyed fishing.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Geraldine Haynes; a son, Adones Spencer; sisters, Brenda Croom and Anna Gibson; brothers-in-law, Sam Johnson and James Gibson.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Haynes; sisters, Mary W. Johnson and Sara Key; special and dear friends, Van and Staci Morris and their family, two grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
