Evelyn Vernice Wilson was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She departed this life peacefully to be with God on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Fort Wayne, Indiana after a courageous fight against cancer.
Evelyn was born in Marion, Alabama on October 3, 1952 to Isaiah Jr. and Luvada Hogue. After graduating high school, she moved to Fort Wayne in 1969 where she started working for Wayne Combustion Systems. She was a reliable and an extremely hard worker, and she eventually retired from Wayne Combustion Systems after over 40 years of service.
She met her husband, Arlie Wilson, and was married in 1973. Together, they had two sons, Jamar and Jamie. Evelyn was always dedicated to her family, worked tirelessly, and always gave freely to anyone that needed anything.
Growing up in Alabama, Evelyn’s family gave her the nickname “Suge” because of how much of a kind person she was to everyone. Being the oldest of eleven children, Evelyn was almost like another parent to her siblings. She continued to offer help to her mother, all her siblings, nieces, and nephews even after moving to Indiana.
Since Evelyn had two sons, the love of her granddaughters was always on her mind. She would buy multiple dresses every year just to see her granddaughters’ photos wearing the dresses.
Evelyn always dealt with adversity and sickness in her family by being strong willed and continued holding on to her faith in God. Her husband and son had multiple surgeries due to various illnesses, but Evelyn remained faithful in God and fought continuously to take care of her family. She committed to hundreds of visits to hospitals, doctor appointments, being a caregiver for her sick husband and son, and stayed steadfast during dozens of surgeries to make sure her family made it through safely.
Evelyn’s memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Arlie Wilson of Fort Wayne, her son, Jamie (Kimberly) Wilson of Fort Worth, TX, granddaughters, Madison and Elizabeth Wilson of Fort Worth, TX, and her siblings, Shirley (Theodore) Banks, Annie (Willie) Ewing, Genia and Wanda Faye Hogue, Elinor (Anthony) Davis, Lee Joseph Hogue and Newett (Bertha) Hogue.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah Jr. and Luvada Hogue, her brothers, Lincoln Isiah Hogue, Shelvy Leon Hogue, James Melvin Hogue, and her son, Jamar Ramon Wilson.
She will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery
