Gwendolyn “Gwen” Morgan, passed away on March 17, 2025, after battling an illness. Gwen was born to Madie and Bennie Moore in Sumner, Mississippi. Gwen completed her nursing training at the Homer G. Phillips Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri. While at Homer G. Philips, Gwen met the love of her life and her soulmate, Milton M. Morgan, M.D. who was affectionately known as “Milt.” After marrying, Milt and Gwen moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where they started a family. They were blessed with two daughters, Janet and Lori. After their children were born, Gwen attended school and earned a bachelor’s degree and subsequently, a master’s degree in English. Because of her lifelong passion for justice, she later pursued her dream of attending law school as she had a goal of helping others navigate through the legal system. Gwen attended law school at Valparaiso University Law School and earned a juris doctorate. After graduating from law school, she started her own practice and enjoyed using her nursing acumen to assist her clients by securing settlements and verdicts in their favor. After practicing for a number of years as a solo practitioner, her daughter, Lori joined her in the practice of law and for a period of time, the two were the only mother daughter lawyers who were in practice together in Allen County.

Her memories will forever be cherished by her daughters, Dr. Janet D. Morgan and Judge Lori K. Morgan, her sons in love, Attorney Ernest L. Wilkerson, Jr. and Brian K. Maxey, her grandchildren, Jillian M. Wilkerson and Braylon K. Maxey. Three sisters; Doris Smith, Catherine Leigh, Hazel Batts (Van); one brother, Bennie Moore and her sister-in-love, Mary Moore and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Any memorials or donations honoring Gwen's life can be sent, in her name, to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the Allen County Bar Association.
