HENRY DAVIS JR. departed this life on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.  He was born on  June 22, 1929, in Demopolis, Alabama to Minnie and Henry Davis Sr.

 

Henry was a faithful and committed follower of Christ and was very active in the church. In Richmond, Indiana at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, he served as a church Treasurer and Deacon. In Pontiac, Michigan at New Hope Baptist Church, Henry taught the men's Sunday school class and sung in the men's choir. In Southfield, Michigan at New Hope Baptist Church, Henry sung in the men's choir and enjoyed attending Sunday school and Bible study.
 

Henry attended Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama and received a GED from Central High School of Fort Wayne. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1951. Henry received his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering in 1957 from Indiana Institute Of Technology. He had three patents and several technical diplomas and certificates including; The Tire Pressure Monitoring and Warning System Patent in 1974, a diploma in Microprocessor Technology in 1994 and a certificate for outstanding performance awarded for valuable service and participation as an academic coach presented by the Ben Carson Lifetime Scholars College Preparatory Academy in June of 2000.
 

Henry taught engineering courses part time at Miami University of Ohio and Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. He also gave a technical presentation at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress & Exhibition in 2006.
 

Henry supported his children, and many young people in the community in academics and sports. Henry was always there to practice with them and to root them on. In fact, he was a coach for Little League baseball and basketball. After retirement, Henry gave back to the community by tutoring students in physics and mathematics on the Jiskha Website. And most recently in February of 2020, Henry was interviewed by Indiana Tech's Senior Director of Institutional Advancement.

 

Henry is survived by his sister, Virginia Jamison of Phoenix, Arizona; children, Patricia, Tony, Cynthia (grandchild Precious), and Betty of Southfield, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
 

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Catherine Davis; sister, Lessie Mae Peoples and brothers, Willie Davis, Frankie Davis and Robert Davis.
 

Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Ellis Funeral Home.
 

Interment in Highland Park Cemetery.
