Jerome Franklin Walters Obituary

Jerome Franklin Walters passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026. He was 83 years old. Jerry was born in Chicago, IL on August 2,1942, to Hazel Walters. They lived in Chicago for 2 years before moving to Fort Wayne, IN, where he was raised. He was the oldest of two children, with one brother, Rory Walters. He attended Central High School and was part of the Cheerleading team.


He served in the Navy from 1962-1965 as a medical assistant aboard the ship USS Ashtabula, around the Philippines. He worked at Harvester from 1964 to 1973. Jerry worked at Trimline striping cars.  He also taught diving and swimming at Club Olympia. Jerry worked at State School, he was a city bus driver, a janitor and was self-employed at several different hustles: cleaning carpets, a shade tree mechanic, and commercial and residential cleaning.


Jerry married the love of his life, Delores Webb on August 25,1973. They were married for 53 years. Jerry was baptized on November 14,1970 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a member of the Southeast congregation in Fort Wayne, IN. His most important work was not for man but for his God Jehovah. He loved teaching others full time about the Bible for 53 years…as long as he was married!


Jerry loved to work on cars and race them. When he was younger, you would know when Jerry was on your street because the noise from his hotrod car would wake up the neighborhood. He was an avid roller skater and loved swimming.


Surviving Jerry are his wife, Delores Walters of Fort Wayne,IN; son, Michael Jonathan Walters {Iyana}; daughter, Kristen {Reggie} Moore of Fort Wayne, IN ; Grandchildren, Treon Woods of Fort Wayne,IN, Jaheim Carter Walters of South Carolina, Mickaya Walters of Fort Wayne,IN, Keziah Moore of Fort Wayne,IN, MyNaya Walters of Fort Wayne,IN, and Keturah Moore; Great grandchildren, M’lani Hicks and Anori Carter Walters ; Sibling, Rory Walters of Phoenix,AZ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Walters, and a host of aunts and uncles.
