Karla Greene Obituary

Karla’s Journey

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” 2 Tim 4:7

Karla June Greene was born to James and Maxine Greene on December 30, 1945 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Karla professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of her grandfather, the late Reverend John Dixie, Jr. where she was a lifelong member.

Karla was a 1964 Central Tigers graduate.  Karla lived, laughed and loved! She enjoyed watching westerns and playing games on her tablet.  She cherished family gatherings and was the life of the party.  She could “cut a rug” on the dance floor and was self-proclaimed as the “Queen“ of Spades.   Her jovial spirit and ability to make others laugh made each event special. She missed her true calling of becoming a Comedian.

With a fervent desire to provide a quality lifestyle for her children, Karla secured employment in the healthcare and social services sector (Jefferson Pharmacy and Operation Breadbasket), the manufacturing industry (Zollner and GE).   Karla had a strong work ethic and often held several jobs concurrently. She retired from ITT in 2008.

Karla was a loving, supportive and caring mother who opened up her heart and home to everyone, including the neighborhood kids.  Not only did she raise her children but was privileged to foster and adopt children as her own.  She had a heart of gold, and truly exemplified the love of Christ.

As a beacon of light, Karla fought a courageous battle and kicked cancer butt! Her love for God and her unwavering faith served as an incredible endurance.  Known for her friendliness, and willingness to help others, she impacted the lives of many, leading by example.

On Friday, October 9th, the angels rejoiced as they welcomed Karla home to be with her Lord and Savior.  Her wings were ready, but our hearts were not.   She has joined her parents, James and Maxine; sisters, Anita and Erica; and a host of extended family members who preceded her in death.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, to be carried on by her loved ones.  Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to call her mother, Robin Graves, Damon Greene, Kordel Greene, Kevin Greene, Jode Greene, Lewis Greene,  and Alex (Nesia) Carter; grandchildren, Kegan Graves, Nasya Smith, Alanah Greene, Kalis Cooper, Zyon Greene, Nasir Greene and Demareon Greene; brothers, James, Birk and D’Aaron Greene, Willie Hightire;  and a host of sister cousins, extended family and friends.
