Lincoln Chapman, Jr., 70, musician and music educator, died Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 in Cincinnati, OH where he resided for nearly 40 years. A Fort Wayne native and Central High School graduate, Lincoln attended Bowling Green University in Ohio, where he graduated with a BS in Music and earned his Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.
Lincoln performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, Opera Columbus, Syracuse Opera, The Spoleto Festival, Florida Arts Celebration, the Charleston Symphony, the Melbourne-Spoleto Festival and Her Majesty's Theatre (Australia), among others. He taught voice in Cincinnati at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts and the Musical Arts Center (MAC). While at MAC, he was a founding director for the Young Artist Preparatory Program (YAPP), one of the very few opera programs in the nation for outstanding high school singers.
Lincoln is survived by three sisters, Alma Chapman, Alyssa Chapman, and Treacy Dixie; niece Kala Chapman, nephew Timothy Dixie and a host of relatives, friends, students, and colleagues.
Calling begins at 10am with a service to follow at 11am, Saturday, February 17th at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1331 Gay Street. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
