Martha (Brooks) Peterson was born on August 23, 1929 in Marion, Alabama to Edward and Bessie (Hood) Brooks and peacefully departed this life to be with God on May 27, 2021.
She attended the historic Lincoln School in Marion before moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1946.
She married the love of her life, Herman Albert Peterson, Sr. in 1950 and seven children were born to this union. She was a faithful member of New Life Church of God (formerly McKee Street) for over 70 years and served as a Sunday School teacher, Trustee, Women’s Ministry leader, and Soup Kitchen volunteer. She was a dedicated employee of General Electric and retired with over 20 years of service. She enjoyed the art of quilting and was a member of the Star Quilters and Sisters of the Cloth.
Martha’s memory will be forever cherished by her sister, Olivia Betties; daughters, Shirley Peterson-Williams and Pamela (Glynn) Hines; sons, Herman Albert (Liz) Peterson, Jr., Stanley (Lydia) Peterson, Clyde (Rosabelle) Peterson and Greg Peterson; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Bessie Brooks; husband, Herman Peterson, Sr.; a daughter, Cathy Peterson; a grandson, John Albert Peterson; sisters, Aliese Davis, Rosie Rutledge, and Pastor Louise Bray; brothers, Earl Chapman, Willie James Chapman, Luellen Chapman, Edward Brooks, and Lawrence (LP) Brooks.
She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Herman Peterson Sr. in Highland Park Cemetery.
