Pauline Patricia Hawkins was born to Gilbert and Dorothy Temple on October 25, 1933 in Montgomery, Alabama. Pauline’s family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and attended the St. John Baptist Church.
Pauline was one of the first black females to work for the offices of General Electric and retired after 29 years of loyal service.
She married Nelson Hawkins in 1976 and together they raised their family.
She was affectionately known as “Tall Paul” by her cousin Janet Kay, “Pretty P” by her grand-girls, and “Gram Gram” by her great-grandchildren.
Pauline enjoyed family, fishing, gardening, home décor, crossword puzzles, casino trips, family cookouts and was a friend to anyone she met. She loved reading and would read 5-6 books a week and fried the best chicken you could find.
Pauline was well known for her beautiful penmanship and loved fashion, because of her petite and perfect frame, she was known to her girls as their first black Barbie Doll.
Pauline transitioned from Earth to Glory on Saturday, June 16, 2018 surrounded by family.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Hawkins, Sr., her daughters, DeAndrea Lynn Temple-Eley, Capriece Farrie, Lisa Fields of Fort Wayne, and Renee Hawkins of Chicago; her sons, Carlton (Andrea) Farrie of Indianapolis, Nelson (Chandra) Hawkins Jr., Dennis Salley of Fort Wayne and Xavier Hawkins of Chicago; her grandchildren, Shira (Clifton) Dial of Fort Wayne, Jasmine Farrie of Indianapolis, Gordache (Tosha) Fields of Denver, LaCresia Lapsley, Courtney Hamilton of Fort Wayne, Sierra (Corey) Taliaferro of Indianapolis, Crystal Smith, Shamelda Gentry, Cyrielle Jordan of Texas, Carvaughn Page of Tennessee, Jimicka Tatum of Georgia, Richard and Tyrain Gentry, Nigel Phillips, Ciera Jordan, Britainey (Jamarcus) Wilson all of Fort Wayne; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Dorothy Temple; a son, Gregory Temple; sisters, Juanita Shaw and Ida Mae Temple; a son-in-law, MacArthur Eley; and a close cousin, Emma Temple.
She will be laid to rest in Concordia Gardens Cemetery - Lake Avenue
