Rev. Calvin Keith Johnson, 59, passed peacefully into eternity on Monday, April 27, 2020. He was born on March 26, 1961, in Fort Wayne, IN, the son of the late Samuel Murphy and Edna (Harris) Johnson.
From an early age, Calvin exhibited a love for music and church. At a young age, he joined The Spiritual Israel Church and Its Army. His passion and dedication to music led to him teaching himself how to play the bass guitar. He displayed his service and devotion to the church by serving as a deacon, Reverend, and also a Minister of Music.
Calvin attended Indiana State University. He received an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from ITT Technical Institute in 1983. His career within television began in 1984, through the employment at Fox 55 news. In 1987, he became employed with WPTA 21 Alive as a Master Controller and held this position for 22 years. He loved being a role model to others and worked part-time as a crossing guard for East Allen County School.
Calvin played the bass guitar and used this talent to play with many bands and gospel groups within Fort Wayne, IN. His faithfulness was always to the Israel Glorious Tones. Through his gift, Calvin was able to be a mentor and role model to many musicians.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 34 years, Angela Johnson. Three daughters, Cicely (Michael) McCowan, Shacora(Thea) Johnson, and Jealesia Johnson. Five sisters, Joyce Johnson, Remona (James) Gates, and Janace Johnson, all of Fort Wayne, IN, Georgia James of Fairburn, GA, and Patricia (Lee) Brooks-Parker of Madison, Al. One brother Lee (Elizabeth) Murphy of Fort Wayne, IN. Ten grandchildren and three godchildren, Moe Easley Jr, Breauna Walker, and De Marco Cannon. And a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Johnson, maternal and paternal grandparents, and brother, Lee Johnson.
A memorial concert will be held at a later date.
