Waymon Brown, III was born August 15, 1952 to J. Synovia Brown and the late Waymon Brown, Jr. in Benham, Kentucky. He passed away on May 20, 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 1953, his parents, sister Howeda and he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was baptized at Union Baptist Church and was a believer of Christ and had a relationship with God. Waymon was affectionately called “Waymie” as a way to differentiate from his father.
Waymon was a great basketball player and played point guard at South Side High School. After graduation in 1970 he went off to Adrian College in Michigan and grew 8 inches. Needless to say, he transitioned from point guard to shooting guard! He continued to show his skills when he attended Indiana University in Bloomington.
Waymon was the proud father of Nikolas Ridley and Adrienne (Brown) Byfield, his daughter from marriage to Gina Powell. He was also the bonus father of Dana Russell and Daneisha (Russell) Washington, from his marriage to Rhonda Brown. In addition to his children, Waymon was proud of his nephews, nieces and grandchildren.
Among his places of employment, Waymon worked as a counselor for Elmhurst High School and for the City of Fort Wayne before starting his own business, Brown and Associates Consulting, incorporated on March 8, 1995. With the assistance of Dr. Wyatt Mullinax, Waymon was able to help those in need of alcohol and drug counseling.
In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Waymon served as president of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV).
Waymon enjoyed jazz, his Pittsburg Steelers, good food (especially when he was on the BBQ grill), travel, and speaking his mind!
Waymon III was preceded in death by his father Waymon Brown Jr., brother A. Vincent, and sister Howeda.
He is survived by his mother J. Synovia, his brother Lance (Talitha), his sons Nik and Dana, his daughters Adrienne (Michael) and Daneisha (Ryan), his nephews Terence (Ericka) and Quincy (Janée) and a host of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Union Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior to service. ~ Masks will be required ~
