Windell Brooks Obituary

 

Windell (Betties) Brooks, age 73, peacefully left this earth to enter the Kingdom of God on Friday, June 4, 2021. He was born June 5, 1947, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Olivia (Brooks) Betties and the late Michael Cunegin Sr.

 

He graduated from Central High School in 1965. After graduating from Central High School, he joined the Air force, and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. While in Japan, he met Kyoko Hamada. They married and had three daughters: Tonya Brooks of Atlanta, Georgia, Olivia (Sean) Hill of Largo, Florida, and Nicolle Brooks of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Upon returning to Fort Wayne, after his time in the Air Force, he worked at, People’s Trust Bank, International Harvester, and Fort Wayne Community Schools. He retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 2010 after more than 22 years of service.
 

Windell was a people person and loved talking to anybody and everybody. He also loved buying gifts for people, and books for himself. He also enjoyed eating out with his family and friends. As a little boy, he loved going to Alabama to visit his grandmother during the summer and running after the chickens in the yard.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Olivia Betties; daughters, Tonya Brooks. Olivia Hill, and Nicolle Brooks; grandchildren, Tayvion Brooks, Taimont Brooks, Taishaun Brooks, Collin Shaw, Jacquel Walker, Devan Walker, Darian Walker, Harmony Walker and a goddaughter, Trinity Jones;  brothers, Luther (Gladys) Betties of Florida, Roland Victor Betties of Florida, Michael (Marva) Cunegin II of Indianapolis, and John Betties; sisters, Bessie Edmonds (Hilliard) Armstrong of Fort Wayne, Glenna Betties of Iowa, and Marcia (Grant) Fowlkes of Fort Wayne; one aunt, Annette Brooks Russell of Fort Wayne, Indiana

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Cunegin Sr., stepfather, Curtis Betties, stepmother, Corinne Cunegin, brother, Edward Brooks, sisters, Marva Anderson and Paula Betties.
