Sahida, you have our deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband Mel. Mel was a wonderful person to know. His personality was always kind fun generous and thoughtful. He'll be missed by us all, but I'm happy for the place he's at now, because there's no better place to be except in the arms of God. Our sympathy goes out to all the family who have loss this big pillar in their lives. Take care and May God Bless You Always!

You could not meet Melvin O'Neil Smith and walk away and forget Melvin O'Neil Smith. Not that formidable personality who had been anointed with magnanimity and charisma. God given traits that Mel used to show us his love for his fellow man and his joyful embrace of life. To be around Mel Smith made us happy and every time we thought of him , it put a smile in our heart. What a remarkable gift to leave.
It should be added to his resume', Melvin O'Neil Smith - Bridge Builder. One of his many attributes, connecting people. So, I have no doubts when Melvin O'Neil Smith was announced at the Pearly Gates , " well done my Child " rang out, followed by a thunderous ,"AMEN". Mel has shown the way, now it's up to us to follow in spreading LOVE.

To my dear friend who is watching over us now. I'm so glad I got to spend time with you Dec 9-11 when I got to Atlanta you were already at the hospital in ER. I walked in and as weak as you were gave me that famous Mel smile and said hey!!!! I told him I was there to give him a pedicure he laughed. Sam and I waited for doc to give us info on his condition for it wasn't good they move you to Lawerance Ga hospital for better equipped care for you. He got 2 rides that day in EMS he wasn't happy . But they took excellent care of you and gave you what you needed and you perked up 100%. That night Sam and I slept in his room to keep an eye on your care and of course you . Next day family got there you were so happy to see everyone there. The room was getting crowded so I was going to get dinner Sam and Sherry were going to join me and you said: How many does it take to go with her! I said it's like going to the bathroom in pairs you found no humor in that. I left had dinner came back to room you called me Strawberry!!! you apologized for being grumpy I told you it would take more than that to keep me away . We did the rubbed noses because your lips were sore and you told me I Love You.!!! I love you too. I'll miss you but we will keep in touch always. Love Strawberry

So very sorry for your loss. Mel was such a great guy. Selling souvenirs in the 3 Rivers beer tent was such fun and was enjoyed by so many friends, old and new. I remember your wedding day as well. May God bring you peace through your memories. Bless you.

Though I only met him once in Belize with his wife, I could tell that he was a man that was well regarded by many, that he was the center of gravity to his wife and family. A man like Mel is revered for his character and integrity, his respect for his wife and family and his casual nature. It was clear that he could meet a stranger and befriend them as if he had known them for a decade. He interacted with me as if he had known me forever. I sat with him at the cabana chatting while waiting for the wives and I could see that he was a man's man, a true soldier that had led a good life and was enjoying his space with a woman he cherished, and they loved each other. He wrote his name on the tree of life; Mel was here.
