Dorothy Ann Johnson passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the age of 76 after a brief stay at the Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born June 6, 1940 in Jeffersonville, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Retha and Columbus Stephens Jr.
Dorothy united with Turner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. H.D. Saunders. During her membership, she loved working with the House of Sharing, Repast Ministry and the Jesus Birthday (month of June) Celebration at Christmas. She also enjoyed watching television, traveling and visiting the thrift shops.
In July of 1963, she married Walter Johnson III. They shared 40 years of marriage before his passing in 2003. Dorothy worked as a Nurses Assistant and retired from Lutheran Hospital after 30 years of service.
Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Walter “Tony” Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson; step-children, TaKisha Bennett and Kimball (Luann) Black all of Fort Wayne; brother, Columbus Stephens of Bridgeton, New Jersey; sisters, Frances (Gene) McCrary, Bernice (James) Johnson both of Fort Wayne, Josephine (Larry) Williams of Detroit, Michigan and Jeanette Stephens-EL of Moorestown, New Jersey six grandchildren, Corene, Ayanna, Marquese, Natalya, Kimball Jr. and Kimberly; two great-grandchildren, Caman and Amari; a loving mother-in-law, Blanch McQueen of Birmingham, Alabama, eight sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, three special friends, Shelly, Sharon and June along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by a son, David Johnson; great grandson, Amir Weaver-Billingsley and brothers, John, Jack, Wade, Richard and Lewis.
She will be laid to rest in Highland Park Cemetery - January 14, 2017
